Using OBS to Stream to PrestoSports

OBS is a free streaming software that can be used on both Mac and PC. The program can be used to produce broadcasts that feature multiple camera shots, audio sources, graphics, commercials(both audio and video), and much more. Below, we will go over the basics to get you up and running in OBS.

  1. Download Link:

To get started, you will need to download OBS onto your streaming computer. To do this, head tohttps://obsproject.com/download and follow the steps below:

    1.  Click on the appropriate operating system.

    2. Download and Install

Once you have downloaded the software, open it up and you should see the main interface for the program (see screenshot below)

Adding A Video Source:

1)On the lower left side of OBS, you will see two sections, Scenes and Sources. We are going to hold off on talking about Scenes for now and focus on Sources. To add in your video source, click on the plus button in the Sources section. You should now see a new menu pop up.

Since this is a video source, you will select video capture device. If you are using a Blackmagic Device, you will see an option in this menu that says Blackmagic Device and will want to  select that option.

2) A new window will show and you will want to select "Create New". This page also allows you to name the device. Naming the device won't have any impact other than what it will be listed as in the Sources section.

Next you will want to select the appropriate device from the device dropdown menu. Depending on the device being used, these are sometimes very specific (showing the exact name of the source) or broad. For example a USB video capture device may show the name of the product, or just say something generic like "USB Capture Device). For the preset menu, that should default to the correct setting. Finally, hit OK. The source will now show up in the Sources section in the bottom left section of OBS. Additionally, you should see your video source in the main section of OBS as well.

Adding An Audio Source:

1) Adding an audio source follows a similar workflow to video. First, you will want to hit the plus button in the sources option. This time, select Audio Input Capture.

  1. A new window will show and you will want to select "Create New". This page also allows you to name the device. Naming the device won't have any impact other than what it will be listed as in the Sources section.

3) Next you will want to select the appropriate device from the device dropdown menu. Depending on the device being used, these are sometimes very specific (showing the exact name of the source) or broad. For example a USB audio capture device may show the name of the product, or just say something generic like "USB Audio Device). For the preset menu, that should default to the correct setting. Finally, hit OK. The source will now show up in the Sources section in the bottom left section of OBS. Additionally, you should see your audio source in the mixer of OBS as well.

At this point, OBS should have both your audio and video sources added in as devices. The mixer section should also show your audio device. The mixer is where you you can change audio levels for any audio source that you have added into your production.

Sending the Stream to Stretch

Once you have added in your audio and video sources, the next step is to configure the stream to send to the proper location. This will be done by opening up the settings option in OBS. The two areas that we will focus on here are the Stream and Output settings.

Stream Settings:

  1. Switch the Stream Type to Custom Streaming Server:

  2. Enter the URL and Stream Key. If you don't know your URL and Stream Key, please contact our support team and they would be happy to provide that for you.

  3. Hit Apply in the lower left corner.

  4. Hit Ok in the lower right corner.

Output:

  1. For the Output Mode, select Simple.

  2. Video Bitrate: If you are streaming in HD, set the video bitrate between 1500-2000. Encoder should be set to Software (x264). Finally the Audio Bitrate should be set to 96.

  3. Don't worry about the recording section unless you want to do a local recording of the game as well. If you do want to do this we are happy to assist!

  4. Hit Apply and Ok to close the window.

Once you have entered all this information, you are ready to stream! Simply hit the Start Streaming button to send the feed our way. Once the feed has started, you should see a live counter at the bottom of the page showing how long you have been connected for. To stop the feed, simply click Stop Streaming.
