Creating the page

This page explains how to create and configure a Record Book file for Men’s Basketball using the Record Book content type.

Overview

Record Books are used to display historical statistics, records, and leaders for a sport. In the Men’s Basketball directory, the Record Book file tells the system how to load, organize, and render record data.

Directory Location

It is recommended that each sport contain its own respective recordbook file. Record book files are team and sport-specific, so it's preferred that they reside in the normal structure of your networked sports directory’s you may already have defined. However, you are more than welcome to create a unique section that hosts all the record books and have them separated out by sport. This method just creates a disconnect from the defaulted sport/season setup.

Standard path:

CODE
/sports/mbkb/record-book

⚠️ This is the recommended structure that works best with the current sports scheme.

Creating the File

  1. Navigate to the Sports directory.

  2. Navigate to the sport section of your choice. (/sports/mbkb)

  3. Create a new file named record-book

  4. Set the content-type to be Record Book

Required Content Type

The content type must be set to:

CODE
Record Book

This content type:

  • Enables record book rendering

  • Loads record data from the stats system based on sport and team (RPI)

  • Applies the standard record book layout and scripts

Data Source Behavior

The Record Book content type automatically:

  • Pulls record data by Sport and Team (Men’s Basketball - Willamette)

  • Groups records by category (career, season, single game, etc.)

No manual data binding is required.

Common Issues

Record Book Does Not Display

  • Verify the file is listed in a published state

  • Confirm the content type used is Record Book

  • Ensure the Sport is properly defined

  • Ensure the Team is properly defined

Best Practices

  • Create a backlink to the recordbook within each respective sports secondary navigation.

  • SEO

    • Define the Title of the Record Book (Men’s Basketball Record Book)

    • Define an appropriate leadin to be used as the page description (Google Search Snippet)

  • Avoid heavy custom markup unless required

  • Use local overrides only for presentation (not data logic)

  • Test on both desktop and mobile layouts
