Editing Global Navigation

The global navigation menu is powered by a navbar-text file. This file can be found in the root directory of the Website tab (the "home" page of the Website tab). This file will being with “navbar-” and end with a key word. Below are common names for the global navigation menu:

  • navbar-global

  • navbar-global-redesign

  • navbar-primary

For older sites the file name for that file may be global-nav, but it’s more likely that it’s one of the other file names listed above. You can check to see the file name powering that navigation menu by following these instructions:

  • Log into your website

  • Go to the Website tab

  • Click view on the right side of the page to go to the front end of the website

  • Find the edit button to the right side or underneath the global navigation menu and hover your mouse over it. This will indicate the filename for the file powering that navigation menu

The drop down menus for your global navigation are powered by navbar-text files. These can be found in the root directory of the Website tab (the "home" page of the Website tab). All of these files will begin with "navbar-" and end with a key word corresponding to the global navigation text. Below are common names for global navigation drop down menus:

  • Sports: navbar-sports

  • Men's Sports: navbar-men

  • Women's Sports: navbar-women

  • Inside Athletics: navbar-information

  • Media: navbar-media

Instructions

To edit your global navigation menu:

  1. Search for the appropriate file in the root directory. You may need to click the "Next >>" link on the right to search for this file as it may not be listed in the first 20.

  2. Hover your mouse over the navbar file and click edit content

  3. In the Label field, enter in the text you want the link to appear as

  4. In the Target URL field, enter in the path to the page you would like to link to or click the button to search for the appropriate page (ex: /information/directions/index)
    NOTE: You can also enter full URLs to direct viewers to external website

  5. If you are adding a dropdown menu you will need to put # in the Target URL field and then use the file selector button to the right of the Secondary URL field to connect the navbar file for that menu. If you know the URL path for the file you can also type it directly into the Secondary URL field

  6. To adjust the order of menu items you can click and drag them in the correct order

  7. Click Save Changes

To edit your global navigation drop downs:

  1. Sign in to your site and click on the Website tab

  2. Search for the appropriate file in the root directory. You may need to click the "Next >>" link on the right to search for this file as it may not be listed in the first 20. If you are unsure of the filename for that navbar file, you can click edit content on the file powering the global navigation menu and look at the Secondary URL for the menu item to see that filename.

  3. Mouse over the navbar file and click edit content

  4. In the Label field, enter in the text you want the link to appear as

  5. In the Target URL field, enter in the path to the page you would like to link to or click the button to search for the appropriate page (ex: /information/directions/index)
    NOTE: You can also enter full URLs to direct viewers to external website

  6. To adjust the order of menu items you can click and drag them in the correct order

  7. Click the "Save changes" button
