Microthemes
A Microtheme is a specialized theme that can be applied exclusively within a microsite definition. While the main website uses the global site theme, a microtheme allows a selected section or folder of the site to carry its own distinct visual identity. This enables administrators to tailor branding, layout, and component behaviors for specific campaigns, sports, seasons, or events without altering the styling of the primary site.
What a Microtheme Does
A microtheme allows a microsite to override selected visual and structural elements, including but not limited to:
Color schemes (primary, secondary, accents)
Typography (headings, body fonts, sizes)
Layouts and spacing rules
Buttons, banners, and reusable components
Navigation styles specific to the microsite
Backgrounds, imagery, and styling for key sections
By assigning a microtheme, a microsite can adopt a unique look and feel while still functioning within the same CMS environment as the main website.
Why Use a Microtheme?
Microthemes are ideal when you need:
A campaign-specific visual identity
A sport or season with its own branding
A landing page or mini-site that stands out from the parent site
A design that matches event graphics or marketing materials
The ability to package and reuse a custom theme across multiple microsites
Microthemes provide a flexible way to create visually distinct experiences without duplicating an entire site theme.
How Microthemes Work With Microsites
Microthemes are assigned during the microsite setup process:
An administrator defines a new microsite.
A microtheme is selected from the available theme list.
The microtheme is applied to the targeted section or folder.
All pages within that area inherit the microtheme’s styles and components.
The microtheme is only active within the boundaries of that microsite; the rest of the website continues using the global theme.
